US diesel and gasoline prices have hit record highs—reaching $5.85 and $4.14 per gallon respectively—due to ongoing conflict with Iran and disruption in the Strait of Hormuz. Despite claims from President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance that the US military has secured the waterway and restored oil traffic, continued attacks and rising energy costs are increasing transportation expenses and burdening consumers just ahead of the US midterm elections.
